Howard County Woodworkers Guild

We have speakers lined up for the September, October and November meetings, I’ll keep this page updated when arrangements have been finalized.

The Glenwood Branch of the Howard County Library has requested the Guild give some demonstrations of various phases of woodworking. The date has been set as October 4th, from 10am to about 1pm, or longer is there is interest. There is a possibility that we could have the monthly meeting at that library.

A future meeting will feature demonstrations of specialized jigs and fixtures for woodworking that have been made by club members. Several of the members have indicated an interest in bringing in a jig or fixture that they have designed and built for a special purpose. Contact Jim Coggins or a guild officer to show your interest in demonstrating.

The Guild and the Bain Center held a successful open house in October 2007. Many woodworkers stopped by to see what we were all about as well as representatives of the county Parks and Recreation department. They were interested in the shop and how the Guild could work with P&R.

The woodworking shop in the Florence Bain Senior Center is open weekdays. The guild monitors the shop every weekday morning from about 9:00 to about 11:30 when clean-up begins. Don’t expect to start a project late in the morning.

For of those that cannot take time off during the weekday to work on their projects, this is not limited to the ‘non-retired’ members, it is open to all. The shop will be open from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Remember that the shop monitor will be wanting to leave at 9:00 Cleanup will start about 8:45pm - give the monitor a hand.
